Tree Planting Fun

Our great team of tree planters dug over 200 holes today on a steep bank at a local farm to plant a variety of native trees. This is part of a project to help protect the local stream from sediment. The Brookby students did a fabulous job!

Wai Care Team

The Wai Care Team cares for the stream that runs next to Brookby School, a tributary to the Papakura Stream. We test the water for things like nitrates and water temperature, and check that the water is healthy for creatures to survive and thrive!

Brookby's Bug Hotel

Brookby has its very own Bug Hotel, a relaxing 5 star resort for bugs and beneficial insects. We are hoping that native insects like the weta will move in to our luxurious retreat.
Our bug hotel was made using resources provided by the wonderful Bunnings Manukau plus natural items like leaves, sticks and branches found in the local environment.
Please stop by and have a look to see what creatures are residing here!

Worm Bin Team

Our Brookby School worm bin team help collect all of our worm friendly scraps to feed our hungry family of tiger worms. Tiger worms help us reduce and reuse our food scraps like left over fruit and vegetables, paper scraps, egg shells and even hair! Just remember they don't like dairy foods, citrus and bread or meat!

Meet the Litterless Lunch Team!

Litterless Lunches

Every Thursday our Litterless Lunch team gear up and head out at lunchtime looking for Brookby students who have a litter free lunch box. So that means no  plastic wrappers or  packaging that is single use. Students who have a waste free lunch box  receive a voucher and go in the drawer to win a family pass to Paradice Ice Skating!
Our Litterless Lunch team do a great job and help us to reduce, reuse and recycle at Brookby School!

Brookby's New Pottager Gardens

Brookby now has three new raised pottager style garden beds that have been planted out with winter vegetables and salad plants.
We are very grateful to Bunnings Manukau for supplying us with the wood, soil and plants. We are also very thankful to Dawn the Activity Organiser from Bunnings, for helping put the gardens together with the assistance of some of our Garden Club students.
We are looking forward to watching these plants grow, tending our new gardens and thinking of delicious recipes we can cook with the produce!
